Homer Wilson was a Caring Heart

Animal Welfare advocates in Blount County are mourning the loss of Homer Estes Wilson, a true friend to animals. Mr. Wilson served as President of Blount County Animal Shelter from 2003-2009. He became President of the shelter movement during a challenging time and under his direction and leadership, Blount County residents saw their dream of a first ever animal shelter come to fruition. He continued to support the animal welfare movement until  the end of his life.

May 5th through  May 13th is recognized as "Be Kind to Animals Week."

Each year in recognition of Be Kind to Animals week, Blount County Animal Shelter gives a Caring Heart Award to a Blount Countian who has demonstrated care and compassion for animals.

This year's recipient is Sharon Boone of Remlap. Sharon is a dog rescuer with a local group. She is so dedicated, when one of her adopted dogs got lost from their new home, she visited local animal control on a weekly basis hoping they would find the dog, and they did.

Congratulations to Sharon Boone, who was the honored dinner guest on Friday May 10th at Mio Sogno Restaurante in Cleveland.
