Animal Welfare advocates in Blount County are mourning the loss of Homer Estes Wilson, a true friend to animals. Mr. Wilson served as President of Blount County Animal Shelter from 2003-2009. He became President of the shelter movement during a challenging time and under his direction and leadership, Blount County residents saw their dream of a first ever animal shelter come to fruition. He continued to support the animal welfare movement until  the end of his life.

Homer Wilson will  posthumously receive the 2015 Caring Heart Award, is given each year by Blount County Animal Shelter during Be Kind to Animals Week, which is May 3-9th.
